Elvery's achieves new heights.

Elvery’s Sports was established in 1847 and is the oldest sports store in Ireland with over 35 stores nationwide. Elvery’s cater for both the casual sporting community and top sports athletes. Their business has been built on a high level of customer service, quality sports goods, reliability and above all instilling confidence in the public that Elvery’s Sports is the retail store for those interested in sport.

In 2004 Elvery’s decided to relocate from Galway to a new propose built 6,000 square metre Distribution Centre in Castlebar, Co. Mayo and Storage Systems Ltd were awarded the contract to provide a turnkey storage solution for this new facility.

Niall Rock of Storage Systems explains. “Elvery’s have a huge diversity of products ranging from squash balls and golf clubs to treadmill’s and clothing and this provided a unique challenge for our design team. Our main focus was to provide a solution that focused on utilizing space, reducing manual handling, increasing speed of picking and providing the most effective storage solution for each product stored.

Our solution was to provide Redirack Pallet Racking 10.2m high for palletised goods in conjunction with a 2,000m2 Three-Tier Redifloor Mezzanine Floor 9m high for hand picked goods. On the first floor of the mezzanine we installed HI-280 shelving for clothing and accessories, on the second floor we installed Longspan Shelving for footwear and on the third floor was left for other items such as footballs, hurleys and hockey sticks.

From the intake marshalling area we installed an automated conveyor system, which delivers products to their storage locations. Picking is achieved via handheld scanners, goods are placed in totes and the automated conveyor delivers the totes to the despatch area from where daily deliveries are made to all Elvery's stores nationwide.
